Captains' Network went to Bilbao

In April 2009, 12 captains from the Pathfinder Captains' Network met for a two-day seminar in Bilbao, Spain.

The idea was to find and share new insights into visionary work and strategic planning – inspired by the world-famous architect Frank Gehry, his visions, creative processes and realisation of the Guggenheim Museum, among others, and the effect the Museum has had on the city of Bilbao. In every way.

There are many good examples of companies which, with proactive planning and the Pathfinder spirit, have paved the way for new, effective ways of thinking, planning and acting. At the moment, another wave of Pathfinder companies is choosing to defy adverse conditions and the financial crisis and instead develop their business strategies and visions for playing a new or continued vital role in the global marketplace. This is not about average projections, but about the companies – through courage and innovation – using their very best resources to stage an exceptional future.

How these companies work was one of the angles explored in Bilbao – ‘Outstanding Corporate Visions – In a Time of Crisis’. Another was the city of Bilbao itself and the developments that have taken place in the city since Frank Gehry’s famous Guggenheim Museum became a reality. At one swoop, the slightly bleak Spanish fishing village was transformed into one of the world’s leading cultural metropolises. A third was Frank Gehry himself, his way of thinking and working and finally the museum itself, the building, its spaces and exciting exhibitions.

The trip was a great success! Everyone went home with plenty of new inspiration, new insight, renewed courage and will to navigate their organisations through choppy waters towards new, fruitful horizons. At the beginning of June, members of the Captains' Network met in Malmoe.

Briefly about the Pathfinder Captains' Network

The Pathfinder Captains' Network is for all Pathfinders working with strategic development in their company. At the networking events, CEOs and strategic managers from very different organisations meet to share visions and insights. The general aim is to gain insight into and get a good grip on the source within ourselves that we draw from when we have our greatest successes. The central idea of the network is how to create the effect which, through a proactive mindset, satisfied employees, shared understanding of visions and objectives, leads to impressive results for both company and manager.
